Anantam vaasukim shESham padmakambalakou tathaa | tathaa kaarkOTakam naagam bhujangashvatarou tathaa || dhRutaraaShTram shanKapaalam kaalIyam takShakam tathaa | pingalam cha mahaanaagam sapatnIkaan prapoojayEt |

Snakes to be remembered on this day :Anantha, Vasuki, Shesha, Padmakambala, kaarkotaka, naga, Bhujanga, Dhrutarashtram, shankapalam, kaaliya, takshaka, pingala, mahanaaga. We have to make pooja of these Snakes alongwith their respective wives (sapatneekam),and must pray them



As per Varaha purana, it is clearly mentioned that on Nagapanchami day, those who are doing Naaga pooja would be worshipping the shesha, vasuki antaryaami sankarshaNaroopa of Srihari

Lord Vishnu rests on Adi Sesha, the thousand-headed serpent. Some of the avatara of Adi Sesha, who is always with the Lord, are Lakshmana, Balarama.

Subramanya – Snake - Normally, wherever there is Subramanya Kshetra, we see only snakes. Pooja and Naivedya to be done for snakes. Subramanya blessed sarpaas with their penance and said “in future all my poojas would be done in the roopa of snakes only”. As such, the worship of Subramanya is being done in the roopa of snakes only.

Nagabhisheka – Tani ereyuvudu -

Then go to an ant hill (hutta), and do the abhisheka (tani ereyuvudu) with the Srihari abhishekita milk, ghee, sugar. Otherwise, if there is the vigraha of sheshadevaru in the house, do abhisheka to that idol with the chanting of the mantra - naagaraajaaya nama: | naagaraajaaMtarga saMkarShaNaaya nama: | vayana daana
